How to Play Paper Minecraft

Move with arrow keys or WASD in 2D - left, right, and jump. The world is a side-scrolling cross-section.

Mine blocks by holding the dig input. The 2D view shows earth layers as you dig down - dirt, stone, ores appear in clear strata.

Craft tools and gear from gathered resources. The tier progression (wood to stone to iron) gates what you can mine.

Build by placing blocks. 2D construction suits towers, walls, and platforms - vertical building on a flat backdrop.

Tips & Strategies

Dig down systematically. Ores cluster at specific depths - learn where iron, gold, and diamond appear to mine efficiently.

Shelter before nightfall. Monsters spawn in dark areas - a quick wall-and-roof keeps you safe through the first night.

Use the 2D layout for navigation. Caves, caverns, and tunnels are readable in cross-section, making exploration more direct than 3D.

Build vertically for defense. Towers with ladder access let you retreat from ground-level threats; walls channel monster approaches.

About Paper Minecraft

Paper Minecraft is a 2D side-scrolling take on the voxel sandbox formula. Instead of a 3D world, you explore a flat plane where you dig down into the earth, build sideways, and navigate a cross-section of terrain. The mining and crafting depth is preserved, but the perspective changes how you approach exploration and construction.

The 2D framing makes mining more direct. You see the layers of earth as you dig - dirt, stone, ore veins, caverns - and branch mining is literally horizontal tunneling rather than 3D excavation. Building is vertical construction on a flat backdrop, which suits towers, walls, and stacked structures.

Survival elements carry over. Hunger, monsters, and health constraints exist in survival mode, and the night cycle still brings threats. The first-night shelter challenge translates directly - build walls and a roof before dark.

For players who want the Minecraft loop in a different perspective, Paper Minecraft offers the same gather-craft-build progression with exploration that reads differently. The 2D view changes strategy without losing the core appeal.
